Greetings Team,

I wanted to give everyone some more information about the league and an update on practices. WARNING- This email may be a little long.

 Practices & Games

We are allowed to have 2 practices a week during our preseason.  For the next week, we are going to practice on Tuesday, March 28th and Thursday, March 30th from 6:00-7:15 PM at our Woodland Complex at Field 1.  Woodland Complex is located at 650 Woodland Ave, Cheltenham, PA. (down the street from Presentation BVM school and church).  Once we start the season and play games, our official practice night will be Tuesdays and our home games will be either on Thursday nights and Saturday afternoons.  We do some travel at this division for our away games.  The travel time will vary depending on the location of the team and field.  Once we finalize our schedule for the season it will be posted on the CLL website.  If your daughter can not make any practices or games please let us know as soon as you can so we can plan and adjust accordingly.  I will send out weekly reminders of practices and games throughout the season.

Equipment

For every practice and game, your daughter should have the following

  • Cleats ( softball or soccer)

  • Glove ( no smaller than 11 1/2 in ( T-Ball gloves may be too small for this division to catch the softball)

The following equipment is OPTIONAL to purchase but not mandatory.  The league gives each team helmets and bats to use for the season

  • Helmet ( must have a cage attached to it)

  • Bat ( use for fast-pitch softball)

Helmets at this division require a cage attachment. The girls will be hitting off of a pitching machine and some live coach pitching.   You can buy them with the helmet or separately and put them on the helmet.  If you have a bat, it should be for fast-pitch softball and have a BPF of 1.20.  If you go to the sporting goods store they should have plenty of fast-pitch bats to choose from.  The tip is that you should be able to hold out the bat in front of you with your arm raised for 30 seconds.  I think I got my daughter a size 27 or 28, but it depends on how tall your daughter is.  You will have to have them hold the bat and see how it feels.

  • Hoagie and Picture Day- Sunday, April 30th @ 9:00 AM (Woodland Complex)

Parent Volunteers

We would like to have some parent volunteers help out at our snack stand during our home games.  I will or maybe if any parent would like to volunteer as team parent and create a signup genius for the snack stand this season please let me know.  I will give you all of the information to include in it if you are interested.  We will need 1 parent volunteer at the snack stand during 1 home game this season.  It’s not hard and it’s only a 1-1 ½ hour commitment.

Coaches/ Parents Responsibilities

Our responsibilities as coaches will be to ensure your child’s safety, make certain she is learning the correct fundamentals, and create a positive atmosphere in which all players on the team have a good experience by showing respect, responsibility, and being safe on and off the field. We do ask that parents take an active role as well.  Always be supportive of the team and your child, even if we are playing poorly.  I ask that you let the coaches coach, and leave the instruction to us.  At this age, your child should be learning the fundamentals and practicing but also having fun at the same time.  It’s more about teamwork and not who is winning and losing.  Please don’t take it personally or get frustrated if your child messes up or doesn’t get it right away.  It’s a learning process, and we want to encourage mistakes so they can learn from them.

As parents, if you want to help out please be our cheerleaders in the stands, help out at the snack stand, help us set up the field before a game, or help out with any field maintenance.

I know this was a very long email, but I wanted to include everything.  I promise my emails in the future will not be as long.

If you have any questions please reach out to myself or one of our coaches ( Ian & Rocio)

Looking forward to meeting the team on Tuesday!

Take Care,

Coach Karen
